Aizu Bukeyashiki (Samurai Residence)
Overview
A large open-air historical museum centered on the reconstructed residence of Saigo Tanomo, a senior retainer of the Aizu domain. Displays of swords, spears, muskets, and armor used by Aizu samurai provide a vivid picture of late-Edo warrior life. The tragic story of the Byakkotai (White Tiger Corps) is also presented here, with relics including swords carried by the teenage samurai. An essential destination for understanding the final days of the samurai era.
