西尾城
Nishio Castle
概要
Nishio Castle was reputedly built around 1252 by Ashikaga Yoshiuji, Mikawa Province's military governor, making it one of the oldest castle sites in Aichi Prefecture with connections to the Ashikaga shogunal lineage. The castle town is also famous as Japan's premier matcha (powdered green tea) production center. After many changes of lordship through the Sengoku era, the Ōgyu Matsudaira clan governed Nishio (60,000 koku) through the Edo period. Restoration work has brought back several structures including corner turrets and gates. The intersection of warrior culture and tea ceremony culture makes Nishio a uniquely layered historical destination.
與刀劍的關聯
Nishio Castle's sword culture connects three layers: the medieval warrior heritage of the Ashikaga clan who founded the site, the Sengoku-era Mikawa warrior tradition (which produced Tokugawa Ieyasu and the famously steadfast 'Mikawa samurai'), and the intersection of tea ceremony and sword appreciation aesthetics unique to this matcha town. The Ashikaga shogunate was the highest authority on sword appraisal in medieval Japan. Mikawa Province was celebrated for producing loyal, disciplined warriors whose swords emphasized practical cutting performance. The Nishio City Historical Park Museum displays Ogyu Matsudaira family swords, armor, and tea implements.
