躑躅ヶ崎館(武田氏館)
Tsutsujigasaki Yakata (Takeda Clan Residence)
概要
Tsutsujigasaki Yakata was the residence of Takeda Shingen, the fearsome 'Tiger of Kai,' serving as the Takeda clan's headquarters for three generations. Unlike typical mountain fortresses, it was built on flat ground — embodying Shingen's famous belief that 'people are the castle, people are the walls, people are the moat.' Shingen deliberately chose a less defensible residence, prioritizing unity among his retainers over physical fortification. Today the site is the Takeda Shrine, enshrining Shingen as its deity. Historical remains within the grounds preserve the glory and strategic philosophy of the Kai Takeda clan. Shingen's leadership of his elite retainer corps, represented by the legendary Twenty-Four Generals, earned the Takeda the reputation of being the strongest force of the Sengoku era.
與刀劍的關聯
Takeda Shingen, who commanded the cavalry force hailed as the strongest in the Sengoku era, possessed deep appreciation for fine swords. Kai Province produced quality iron since ancient times, supporting the production of swords alongside the famous Kōshū gold coins and armor. The Takeda sword collection includes battle-tested blades from numerous engagements, including the legendary Battles of Kawanakajima. The famed single combat between Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin is one of the most dramatic episodes in Japanese sword history — Kenshin's sword slash reportedly struck Shingen's war fan. The Takeda Shrine treasure hall displays swords and armaments of the Takeda clan, offering a chance to encounter the weapons of Sengoku-era's greatest warriors.
