Sword Registration Certificate — The 'Passport' of Japanese Swords
In Japan, owning a Japanese sword requires a 'Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate.'
System overview: Issued by prefectural boards of education. Registration is for the blade itself, not the owner.
Procedures: Newly discovered swords must be reported to police, then reviewed by the board of education for registration.
Transfer procedures: When a sword changes hands, the new owner must notify the board of education within 20 days.
Lost certificates: Reissue is possible by applying to the board of education.
All our swords come with registration certificates. International customers receive a copy.
