Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore
概要
The Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore, established in 1971 within Ōmiya Park in Saitama City, is the comprehensive history museum of Musashi Province — the historic territory encompassing modern Saitama and Tokyo. With a collection of approximately 60,000 objects spanning prehistory to modern times, the museum is a major resource for the sword culture of the Edo-Musashi region: the territory centered on Edo (Tokyo) where the Tokugawa shogunate's presence drew master smiths from across Japan and gave rise to the 'Edo Shintō' school of Edo-period swordmaking. The collection focuses on swords by Musashi-area smiths — a niche rarely covered by metropolitan museums — alongside armor, fittings, and comprehensive displays of samurai daily life. The museum is adjacent to Ōmiya Hikawa Shrine, the most important shrine in the Kantō region, where sword dedication rituals can be traced for centuries.

- Comprehensive samurai life displays including armor, fittings, and daily equipment alongside the swords
- Donated sword fittings and armor from Saitama-area shrines and former samurai families — primary-source material for Musashi warrior culture
- Adjacent to Ōmiya Hikawa Shrine (Musashi Ichinomiya) — Japan's most important Kantō shrine, enabling a combined visit covering centuries of sword dedication and regional warrior culture
