Nobeoka Castle's sword culture reflects a unique intersection of southern Kyushu's martial ferocity and the Arima clan's Christian heritage. The Arima family, descended from the Kirishitan daimyō Arima Harunobu who had contact with Portuguese and Spanish weapon culture, may have possessed Western swords alongside Japanese blades — and their sword fittings sometimes incorporated Christian motifs, producing the rare 'Kirishitan tsuba' category prized by collectors. Nobeoka's location in Hyūga Province placed it within the orbit of the terrifying Jigen-ryū school of swordsmanship, which produced warriors of extraordinary one-strike power. The city's history museum displays Arima and Naitō clan swords and armor.
