Overview
One of Japan's premier national museums, dedicated to preserving and exhibiting cultural properties centered on Kyoto. The sword gallery in the Heisei Chishinkan (designed by Taniguchi Yoshio) features a permanent display emphasizing the Yamashiro tradition. The collection is particularly strong in Kyoto-associated blades, including the National Treasure tachi signed 'Yasuke' and masterpieces by the Awataguchi and Rai schools. Located opposite Sanjūsangen-dō, it is ideal for combining with Kyoto sightseeing. The 2018 special exhibition 'Swords of Kyoto' became legendary among sword enthusiasts.
