武田信玄
Takeda Shingen
Tiger of Kai
Beschreibung
Takeda Shingen, the 'Tiger of Kai,' was a fearsome general who commanded Japan's most formidable cavalry, and also a man of refined culture with deep knowledge of swords. He possessed numerous fine blades, including a tachi attributed to Rai Kuninage. The swift, decisive military strategy symbolized by his 'Fūrinkazan' banner was reflected in his preference for sturdy, battle-ready swords. He patronized swordsmiths of Kai and Shinano provinces, contributing particularly to the development of Kōshū smiths. The famous scene at Kawanakajima — where Shingen deflected Kenshin's sword stroke with his war fan — is one of the most iconic moments in Japanese warrior history. Shingen favored practical blades from the Rai school and Masamune lineage, reflecting the Kōshū warrior ethos that valued substance over ornamentation. Though many Takeda-clan swords have been scattered over the centuries, Shingen's legacy looms large in sword culture.
