Honda Tadakatsu
The Mightiest Warrior of the Sengoku Era
Beschreibung
Honda Tadakatsu, foremost of the Tokugawa Four Heavenly Kings, is legendary as the mightiest warrior of the Sengoku period — said to have fought in fifty-seven battles without ever sustaining a single wound. His fame is inseparable from his beloved spear Tonbokiri ('Dragonfly Cutter'), forged by the Mikawa smith Fujiwara Masazane (also linked to the Muramasa lineage). The spear earned its name when a dragonfly landing on its blade was instantly cleaved in two. Tonbokiri is counted among the Three Great Spears of Japan, and its sharpness and beauty are celebrated in the annals of Japanese arms. Tadakatsu was not only a master spearman but also a discerning judge of swords, wielding tachi with great skill on the battlefield. Fujiwara Masazane was a distinguished smith of Mikawa Province, whose blades were prized by warriors for their razor sharpness and battle-ready construction. DATEKATANA is proud to handle works by this very smith — the maker of the legendary Tonbokiri. We invite you to explore this rare opportunity to encounter an authentic work by Masazane.
