Shimazu Yoshihiro
Oni-Shimazu (The Demon Shimazu)
Beschreibung
Shimazu Yoshihiro, feared as 'Oni-Shimazu' (the Demon Shimazu), was the fiercest warlord of Kyūshū, whose daring breakout through enemy lines at Sekigahara thundered across the nation. During the Korean campaigns, he shattered the combined Ming-Joseon forces at the Battle of Sacheon, earning renown even overseas. Yoshihiro had deep ties to the Jigen-ryū tradition of Satsuma and actively nurtured Satsuma swordsmiths. Satsuma blades are known for their distinctive 'Satsuma-goshirae' mountings and their rugged, combat-first design philosophy. The sword Yoshihiro wielded during his famous breakout at Sekigahara has been passed down as a symbol of Shimazu valor. Satsuma sword culture was inseparable from the Jigen-ryū spirit of 'trust the first strike without hesitation,' and its blades pursued sharpness and toughness above all. Yoshihiro spent his entire life in battle, and his approach to swords was uncompromisingly practical, eschewing ornamentation.
