日光二荒山神社宝物館
Nikkō Futarasan Shrine Treasure House
Présentation
Nikkō Futarasan Shrine, founded in 767 and a core component of the UNESCO World Heritage 'Shrines and Temples of Nikkō,' holds one of Japan's most historically significant collections of dedicated swords. As the principal shrine of the sacred Nikkō mountain complex patronized by the Minamoto, Hōjō, and Tokugawa clans, the shrine received sword dedications from emperors, shoguns, and daimyo throughout Japanese history — swords offered to secure divine protection for campaigns or express gratitude for victories. The treasure house collection includes blades with documented provenance connecting to Minamoto no Yoritomo, the Tokugawa shogunate, and court nobles. Combined with the adjacent Tōshōgū's own treasure house, a visit to Nikkō offers Japan's most comprehensive encounter with the culture of sword dedication.
