Heshikiri Hasebe
Auch bekannt als: The Pressing Cutter
Beschreibung
Heshikiri Hasebe is a masterwork uchigatana by Hasebe Kunishige, a Nanbokuchō-period smith celebrated for his intense hitatsura (full-blade) temper pattern. Designated a National Treasure and housed in Fukuoka City Museum, it was once owned by Oda Nobunaga and later bestowed upon the brilliant strategist Kuroda Kanbei (Josui). The blade's name — meaning 'the pressing cutter' — derives from a famous episode in which Nobunaga drove the sword through a shelf to kill a tea-servant hiding beneath it, a story that vividly captures Nobunaga's unpredictable ferocity. The hitatsura hamon, in which nie-based tempering spreads across the entire blade surface rather than remaining confined to the edge, creates a wild, almost supernatural beauty. After Nobunaga's death, it passed to the Kuroda clan and has been treasured as their supreme heirloom ever since.
Legenden & Geschichten
The sword's name comes from Nobunaga's fearsome act of driving the blade through a shelf to impale a hiding tea-servant — a story that encapsulates Nobunaga's terrifying unpredictability. The hitatsura hamon's supernatural beauty, covering the entire blade surface with complex nie patterns, seems to embody the blade's capacity to cut through anything in its path. After passing to the strategist Kuroda Kanbei — Hideyoshi's greatest advisor — the sword became the supreme treasure of the Kuroda clan of Fukuoka. The blade carries within it the spirit of two of the Sengoku era's most formidable figures: Nobunaga's fierce charisma and Kanbei's cold brilliance. Designated a National Treasure in 1951, it is displayed regularly at Fukuoka City Museum, where sword enthusiasts from across Japan gather to witness its ferocious beauty.
