角田城(金津城)
Kakuda Castle (Kanatsu Castle)
Überblick
Kakuda Castle in southern Miyagi was a medieval stronghold of the Kakuda clan that became a Date family branch-castle after Date Masamune's unification of Oshu. Ishikawa Terumitsu, a Date kinsman, held the castle as guardian of the southern approaches. The small Kakuda domain (approx. 20,000 koku) continued under the Date umbrella through the Edo period, preserving the martial traditions of Oshu's samurai culture. Today Kakuda is also home to a JAXA rocket engine testing center — a remarkable juxtaposition of medieval fortifications and cutting-edge space technology.
Verbindung zu Schwertern
Kakuda Castle's Date-affiliated lords maintained the swordsmanship and sword-collection traditions of the greater Date clan umbrella. Date branch-house samurai aspired to own blades by the prestigious Kunikane smiths of Sendai. The Abukuma River corridor provided local iron sand, supporting small-scale smithing for domain use. At the fall of the Ouetsu Reppan Domei alliance in the Boshin War, Kakuda domain samurai fought as some of the last Oshu warriors to carry swords in organized combat. The Kakuda City Local History Museum preserves Ishikawa family and Kakuda domain swords, armor, and documents.
